Everything’s Fine [100 Word Story]
Her hands trembled. The pen kept poking through the piece of paper, marking the bed’s comforter. It was no way to communicate, but he’d begun reading her email and had forbidden her use of the telephone.
She tiptoed from her bedroom, wincing at the creaking floor. She pushed open the front door, just enough to let her hand be outside, and released the letter. It blew into the bottom of a bush by the window.
A click, behind her, caused her to flinch. The spare bedroom door was opening.
“Everything’s fine,” she called out, regretting the stunt.
